Dieffenbachia 'Snow' - Leopard Lily

Dieffenbachia ‘Snow’ is a striking tropical houseplant with large, lush leaves patterned with creamy white and fresh green variegation. Origin
A cultivated variety of Dieffenbachia, a genus native to tropical regions of Central and South America and the Caribbean, where these plants grow in warm, humid forest environments.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Good light will help maintain its attractive variegation, but avoid strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. It can tolerate slightly lower light levels, although growth may become slower and less variegated.

Water
Water when the top few centimetres of soil have dried, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Keep the soil lightly moist during active growth, but avoid waterlogging. Reduce watering during autumn and winter when growth slows.

Humidity
Prefers moderate to high humidity. It will usually adapt well to average household conditions but appreciates additional humidity, particularly in warm or dry rooms. Keep away from radiators and cold draughts.

Soil
Use a rich but well-draining houseplant mix. Adding perlite and orchid bark will improve drainage and airflow around the roots while retaining enough moisture for healthy growth.

Food
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter.

Temperature
Prefers warm temperatures between 18–27°C. Protect from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes, and avoid prolonged temperatures below 15°C.

Pet-safe
No. Dieffenbachias contain calcium oxalate crystals and are toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children. The sap can also irritate the skin and eyes.

Sprouts Top Tips
Give ‘Snow’ plenty of bright, indirect light to keep its creamy variegation looking its best. Wipe the broad leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and help show off their beautiful markings.

Extras
Dieffenbachias naturally develop an upright, cane-like stem as they mature. Older plants may lose some of their lowest leaves as they grow taller, revealing more of the patterned stem beneath.

Did You Know?
Dieffenbachias are commonly called Dumb Cane because their irritating sap can cause temporary swelling and discomfort in the mouth if ingested. We prefer to use the botanical name Dieffenbachia, but you may still see the traditional common name used in the houseplant trade.
