Sao Luis Fig

Sao Luis figs have deep purple skin with some green coloring near the attachment to the tree. The dark skin is in high contrast to the light amber pulp inside. The combination of light pulp and dark skin make this variety interesting to fig collectors. The pulp is thick and has a slight seed crunch. Sao Luis figs have a honey and caramel flavor that is sweet and rich. The figs have a round shape and grow to medium size. Sao Luis is likely late ripening. Descriptions of Sao Luis date back to the 1950s, when Ira Condit wrote about the variety. Condit, a horticulturalist from the University of California, was known as the "High Priest of the Fig" during the state's fig-breeding experiments.

When do we ship cuttings?

Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):

We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.

**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.

Rooted Cuttings(Spring):

We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
